Mille horizons, Jordi Galí’s first production for young audiences, unfolds like a story that could have come from the dawn of time. Someone walks through the mountains. They search for their way, cross a stream, get lost. They voice their doubts and questions about life. Meanwhile, the sun and moon rise and set, and the story unfolds over the course of a day and a night. Along this journey, a kite soars lightly overhead. A tree appears, or perhaps a deer. Animals hidden within the folds of the mountain tentatively poke out their noses; mysterious presences emerge, while wind and storm, fire and rain shape the life of this mountain landscape.
In Mille horizons, a whole world gradually unfolds through a poetic journey. Like a map, the theatre space opens up through the text and the gestures inscribed within it. The eye wanders, discovering branching paths and lines, following the course of a stream or the sound of a herd’s bells. The imagination opens out through discoveries and encounters, through relationships formed with the forces and beings in motion. The marvellous takes shape before our eyes, carried by the text, performed by the mischievous traveller-performers Mathieu Besnier or Estelle Clément-Bealem, alongside Jordi Galí.
Through precise gestures, the choreographer and dancer becomes, in turn, a shepherd guiding a flock, a kite flyer and a manipulator of materials. He brings figures, landscapes and celestial bodies into being. Slipping into costumes and masks, he reveals the presences that inhabit this world and accompanies its transformations. His gentle, silent presence extends his choreographic practice, rooted in relationships, emergence and presence.
Young and old alike are invited to observe, to draw on their own sensations and embodied memories, and to journey together, in good company, towards the summit of the mountain, dreaming their way through these landscapes populated by encounters.
Mille horizons unfolds like a contemporary fairy tale, drawing on a reservoir of ancient images. The piece evokes the wild and weaves connections between human, animal, vegetal and mineral forces. At the heart of this changing landscape, the performers move, explore and compose with whatever emerges. Written with poetic simplicity, the text does not impose a narrative but offers fragments from which each audience member can create their own images. The stage becomes a place of relationships: between sky and earth, the visible and the invisible, what takes shape and what comes into being.
The soundscape by Fanny Thollot and the lighting by Sébastien Lefèvre delicately accompany this continuous metamorphosis. Mille horizons is an invitation to look at things differently, to let oneself be carried along. A sensory experience shaped by the measure of our own imaginations, whether young or old.
