The Latin word anima means breath, respiration. It is then compared to the soul, the spirit that animates bodies. This piece shows the emergence of a branching form, its appearance and disappearance. The performers, arranged in a circle around it, gradually spread it out over a height of 15m and bring it to life. Through the movement of the whole, the bodies and the materials, the void between the parts takes on shape and volume.
After ten years of creations without using sound, ANIMA is also an opportunity for new artistic exploration through musical collaboration with Erwan Keravec, bagpiper, composer and improviser. He created the original score, played live as a duet with Tangui Le Cras, a biniou piper. The monumental installation is the dynamic medium for a close collaboration between sound and gesture.
"With ANIMA, I want to create a circular space and a time of suspension in which performers, musicians, spectators, passers-by and residents come together as one. A parenthesis in the heart of the city where we can come together in the present, with each other. A shared breath." Jordi Galí
