Empowering Dance – Developing Soft Skills is a European project co-funded by Erasmus+. It includes action research on five case studies compiled by five partner organizations from Italy, Germany, France, Croatia and the Netherlands. The staff of the five European dance houses, a research expert from Bassano del Grappa, seven practitioner.ne. s of diverse dance practices, including discussion groups made up of participants from their local communities, are involved in the project.
Dance-specific knowledge is often implicit or “silent”, operates in the background and is rarely named in detail. Empowering Dance – Developing Soft Skills identified, assembled and articulated the implicit skills developed by the practice of dance by focusing on five examples of contemporary dance practices involving a community of non-professionals. s and artists who are specifically interested in relationship building and have a history of working with non-professionals.
The five case studies show that these specific practices actually help participants develop personal and interpersonal skills, and that the ongoing practice of contemporary dance helps people cope with change, build their resilience, confidence and healthy interpersonal relationships.
